Marin Solar President Roy Phillips joins a delegation of Silicon Valley leaders in Washington DC this week to advocate for federal solar tax credits. SAN RAFAEL October 29, 2007. The Silicon Valley Leadership Group has invited three CALSEIA members to join forces in its Annual Washington DC Advocacy Trip as they actively promote solar initiatives at the federal level. An eight-person delegation comprised of The Silicon Valley Leadership Group and members of CALSEIA (California Solar Energy Industries Association) is in Washington this week to meet with members of Congress before they recess November 16. CALSEIA is partnering with national SEIA and other solar industry associations across the U.S. to urge Congress to take action this year. According to the SVLG, "The Silicon Valley Leadership Group is interested in helping California and the U.S. become the leader in the solar industry for R&D, manufacturing and deployment. Japan and Germany have shown that long-term incentives lead to sustained economic investment and development. Incentive policies in the 8-10 year range are best for guiding long-term sector success. The solar tax credit in the Energy Act of 2005 is renewed year to year. With that in mind, this year the Leadership Group supported the "Securing America's Energy Independence Act" which would have extended and expanded the solar energy investment tax credits for homeowners and businesses for 8 years through 2016." Roy Phillips adds, "I'm very pleased to be part of this delegation advocating at the federal level. The issues at hand are incredibly important for our nation's long-term vigor in the energy sector and the overall global need for sustainability. We need our government leaders behind us so we can make a significant and lasting impact, because solar is our future in every sense of the word."
